With prior approval, an ODSP recipient may be issued a one-time payment of up to $50 to assist with the payment of low-cost energy-conservation measures to his/her principal residence. (Sections 28 (1) 37, 43 (1) 25, and 45.2 of the ODSP Regulation.) This will assist with some expenses for low-cost energy conservation measures. The request must be approved in advance.
Any low-cost item that is designed to save energy can be requested, however ODSP will not cover items your team can direct you to where they are offered free. Some examples of low-costs energy-conservation items are:
• caulking
• sealing or weather-stripping around doors and windows, baseboards, plugs
• insulating hot water pipes and hot water tank
• insulating blanket for electric water heater
• flow restrictor in showerhead pipe
• low-flow aerators for faucets
• fluorescent light bulbs
• clothes line/rack and clothes pins
• motion sensors for lighting
• insulating window kitsWrite a letter to your team/worker requesting the benefit. Include the specific cost of the items you are requesting. State why you are requesting it (to conserve energy and/or save money).
